Korean Romanization

When solving puzzles that utilize the English spelling of Korean words, we will try to follow a relaxed version of the revised (2000) Romanization standard. For example, we will ignore apostrophes, breve's, and hyphens. For the beginning of words (in most cases) "D" will replace "T", "G" will replace "K" and "B" will replace "P". In a lot of cases the vowel "o" will be replaced by "eo".

Some of our early puzzles may utilize the old "McCune-Reischauer" standard. If you come to a question you are sure you know the answer to, and are still not getting it correct, try a slightly different spelling. Try T, K, and P for the beginning of words, and "o" by itself for vowels, instead of "eo".

Please keep in mind these puzzles are created for entertainment only. Enjoy!

Below are the presently used English spelling of Korea's nine provinces, and a few of the major cities for reference.

Province City

Gyeonggi-do Seoul, Incheon
Gangwon-do Sokcho
Chungcheongnam-do
Chungcheongbuk-do Daejeon
Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju, Daeju
Jeollabuk-do
Gyeongsangnam-do Ulsan, Busan
Jeollanam-do Gwangju
Jeju-do

Reminder: On our puzzles we will leave out the hyphen.
